Tim Motzer

Artist Statement:
I am a guitarist, musician, producer, engineer, and owner of my label, 1k recordings. Since the late '70's, I have been taking photographs - landscapes, rock concerts, people, buildings, abstractions, and the like. I have always been interested especially in the things people don't usually notice, bringing a focus or graphic quality to an ordinary subject. As in music, i love texture, color, and line.
Lately, i have been snapping shots on a iPhone 3GS catching the day to day on concert tours in Europe, the blur of life, buildings, wires, skylines with the aim of transforming the day to day more painterly quality.

Bio:
This is my first show as a photographer. Photography is a daily passion that accompanies my musical life, be it touring, gigging, or working in the studio. The camera is always documenting the events and surroundings of that life. Photography is music for my eyes, and music is photography for my ears!
Musically, I have been touring the world for over 12 years, collaborating with remarkable musicians, and have recorded on over 60 albums. I continue to explore the language of the guitar, and continue to extend my voice utilizing looping, bowing, electronics, and prepared techniques ala Cage. I release my music on 1k recordings, webcast sessions from my studio at 1ksessions.com, and continue to score for the world of dance and film. My latest project is a multimedia trio called Instant Takemitsu.

Global illage release "The Complete Portland Sessions"

Monday, July 02, 2012

Celebrate the release of our newest album. The Complete Portland Sessions, a special Limited Edition USB release. Over 3 hours of music recorded in Portland Oregon. The powerful alliance of Jim Hamilton, Chris Cuzme, Danny Sears, and Tim Motzer makes this one of the world's premiere improvising ensembles. Global illage is  forging new pathways in dark ambient world music with modified percussion and telepathic improvisations over layers of dense sound.  Available as a 3 volume download with over 3 hours of remarkable music.

"ALBUM OF THE DAY: Global illage's The Complete Portland Sessions, featuring world-class improvisers Tim Motzer, Chris Cuzme, Jim Hamilton, and Dan Sears. This is an epic, 3 hour + release that captures the quartet in rare form. Conceptually, it's akin to a modern invocation of the spirit of late 60's/early '70's Miles Davis." Anil Prasad (Guitar Player Magazine)

about the record:
Global illage - The Complete Portland Sessions
Recorded in Portland Oregon while the band was out there to play the String Cheese Incident Festival
in 2010.  The two days ahead of the festival gave them rare time together in the studio and resulted in
this amazing outpouring of music—over three hours of it, raw and unedited adventures in music.
also includes a 20 minute visual by Dejha Ti.

Recorded at Portland Underground Recording by PE Strickland in August 2010 Portland, Oregon.
Mixed by Brian Boland at Rittenhouse Soundworks, Philadelphia December 2010.
Mastered by Jeff Chestek at the Hat, Philadelphia June 2012
