NOTES FROM THE ROAD
sob's new york city
SOB's...sound was good this time around...
groove collective opened for us and it was
cool to meet Jonathan, Ben, and all the cats...
we played a pretty mean show tonite plus a
world premier of a new poem 25000 with a rock vibe to the music...it was well received...good
show...SOB's is always hard for some reason...
hard to feel the audience...kinda feels hollow...but
people say they loved so....there you go. the show
was recorded as well...so perhaps some stuff will
surface at some point in the future....beverage: 2 guiness for a wind down...we grabbed some falafels, and spinach pies with gamall from backspin promotion, and then, hit the road back to philly...pit stop at one of the nastiest dirty rest stops of all time....gotta love the NJ turnpike...always great to be nyc again though...
transit, philadelphia
ladyfest - and quite a show it was with us double
billing with bahamadia...quite the diverse audience
and i believe partly an all ages show...our set tonite
made up for last weeks struggle in baltimore...we were flying tonite...properly fueled by abbeys' leffe blondes...highlights tonite: philadelphia child,
what??, time, + supa sista...and it was great finally meeting bahamadia and hear her live performance!!! great sound by barb adams from electric factory!!!
TO PEACE IN THE WORLD. STRANGE CRAZY ALIEN TIME. PEACE.
sonar, baltimore md
our first show in a dance club, sonar. a nice
venue housing two separate rooms for djs...great
hosts...but we ended up competing with the
house dj's in the other room unfortunately...
our music + beats colliding with raging sub bass + house tempos pounding thru walls ...alas...we had to drop our quiet pieces from the set...maybe one of the hardest shows we've done...we really rocked 'time' and 'supa sista' though...old school philly style...we gave it our best shot.
postshow, gently numbed and staggered courtesy of duvel. afterwards grooved + sushi'd at kobe to dj kevin yost.
lisbon, portugal
the drive from porto was long with very beautiful
sea and country sides to gaze at....made it to lisbon just in
time for soundcheck at the sao luiz municipal theatern...again,,,an incredible sold-out royal opera hall...
we had another amazing show...and standing ovations...the lisbon newspapers reviewed the shows favourably,,,as well as various tv and press...we were
really taken by the kindness, thoughtfulness and generosity by everyone we met along the way of this tour...everyone here were wonderful..many new friends....after show, kicked it with jorge, kalaff, cristina, and friends at a seriously grooving club...spent next few
days chilling in cafes, exploring lisbon, and of course eating amazing food...ahhhh...it's gonna
be hard going back to philadelphia after this!!!!
i will upload some photos from our journey soon..
porto, portugal

room 411 porto carlton hotel.
we had a brief layover in paris in the new terminal...an architectual wonder...and then on
to portugal...greeted by marianna and jorge
at the airport...the trip was quite fun as our drivers
promptly got lost in the portugal streets for an hour
before we arrived at our hotel carlton...the rooms are really nice, very tired from travel and little sleep...took opportunity to soak awhile in this marble bath.....wonderful meals here...(you could often hear me saying "it doesn't get much better than this!")...the weather is beautiful...reminds you of LA nights, but better...the sun is bright here...but they tell me even brighter light in lisbon where we will play our last show...at the san luiz municipal theatern....porto is on the
douro river near the sea and is known for its amazing port wines and wineries...a most incredible city on the water, beautiful bridges, and
old architechture keeps your eyes buzzing...and the people here are the best!!! we played the hardclub across the river from our hotel...built into
the side of a mountain...the club gets its name from
all the stone and wood construction...the show and
sound here were superb...the way i like it...with subs really kicking..philly style...packed empathetic audience...paparazzi was here too...
after the show...checked out some porto clubs with
my new friend kalaf (mc, poet, dj, bulliet) - including
a drumnbass show in the hull of a docked boat....!!!
talk about waves....ahhhh!! as per usual on this tour the food, deserts, and wines were superb!!!
beers were provided by super bock. also, must
say the euro tv news is much superior to US tv
coverage...you at least get to see reporting from all sides...and it doesn't come at you with such hyper anxiety driven hyperbole...in your city check
out public tv for world news for a broader spectrum
of coverage.
neffertiti gothenburg sweden
more cold gray weather here in sweden...the land
of frozen lakes and rivers where snow stays on the
ground for months...quite a site to behold.
a wonderful train ride into gothenburg where we were received by staffan who took us to the club
neffertiti for soundcheck...this is a very hip spot
known for having many of the ecm and u.s. jazz artists
like joe zawinul, jack dejohnette, don cherry...as well as
various electronic artists...although our soundcheck
was perfect...once the show was underway...our mixer decided to cut the mid's from my guitar leaving me to struggle with a sound with no body...
a very difficult show for me and ursula...still well received, but we knew the difference...hung out afterwards talking politiks, culture, and linguistics...
although i can't remember the names- the beers were czech + a certain strong belgian to gently numb my memory of tonites struggle.
tomorrow we fly to portugal...where i hear the sun is shining...

soder teatern stockholm sweden

room 405 sjofarthotellet scandic - nice + warm.
after spending most of the day in charles degualle
airport terminal 1, our mixed-up flights were finally re-scheduled and we had good flights to amsterdam and into stockholm...while in amsterdams airport i sampled the very yoko ono-esque 'watch your step' during our escalator ride...this eventually appeared as the opening ambient piece in the beginning of ursula's show
for the rest of the tour....the following day
arrived at soder teatern for soundcheck...an amazing opera/dance/music theatre dedicated to all artistic expression...expert sound by daniel...
musician/producer/engineer/moog theremin-ist...when ursula arrived she was greeted by
a scandanavian television crew who filmed our
soundcheck and subsequent interview....our first seated audience...was ecstatic for our show...even a clap along during 'supa sista'....again wonderful people here...and high hopes of returning to this beautiful gray frozen city...maybe in the summer...when its
warmer...and thawed out.
la scene paris

paris bastille hotel....room 303...no elevator here.
gear was promptly transported to club for tomorrows show...thanks for your help arse....
flight into paris was cool:::our show at la scene was possibly our best show yet!!!!:::an incredibly diverse parisian audience was really
with us:::soundsystem there was the bomb::::
