edinburgh, scotland

an amazing week during the fringe festival here in edinburgh. what an amazing city. here working with the scottish dance theatre - scotlands principle contemporary dance company - and they are incredible. i have been commissioned to do a 30 minute composition for their 2004 premier and tours. amongst this work, managed to stay out on the town seeing numerous performances: culberg ballet from sweden, keane,
tom baxter, kevin tate...incredible restaurants, edinburgh castle, the vaults, recordshops....the only downside was british air and heathrow airport managed to lose our baggage both going to edinburgh and returning to philly. when flying - try to bypass heathrow or fly direct...if you must connect - try flying through frankfurt.

a wonderful 3 days spent in my old haunts of cincinnati ohio...a reunion with the past...and new friends were to be made. a wonderful reception awaited us at the home of tamara our wonderful hostess for this festival of change. the first evening i gave a clinic on the various uses of all the incredible gear available to those who are aware and want to produce music: live or in the studio. it was well received by 'the heads'...the others probably wondered what was going on...improv performances with napoleon maddox (dj spooky, iswhat?), and a duo from nyc of poetry + bari sax...some enjoyable moments...and some moments of tremendous laughter. afterwards, visited the r+b cafe with my nephew jef and played some pool...not a bad evening. next day played an in-store at shake it records - one of the best record stores that i've ever been in - period. a night off to visit my sister and then to the cincy pubs to celebrate my nephew dan's 30th which ended somewhere around 4am, as i recall. day 3: a visit to a local breakfast hang with genius author Kathy Wilson at the over the rhine hot spot - alot of action here on the street - and then the market nearby. cincinnati is struggling to keep their fine city together. it has many many rewards. the evening- a very late performance by ursula and myself - and special in that my family was present to witness this beautiful duo that i am apart...and citybeat magazine called me an " astounding Hamilton-bred guitarist"..not sure what they mean by that, but thanks all the same!
