Phil Yaeger
trombone

Born into a musical family, Phil Yaeger was taught to sing as soon as he could talk. At the tender age of nine he began studying his father’s instrument, the trombone. After high school, he left his home on a farm in Northern Maine for the big city (New Jersey), where he studied in William Patterson University’s renowned jazz program and has nearly managed to acquire a degree in jazz performance.

Phil has studied trombone with Steve Turre, Conrad Herwig, and Ed Neumeister, arranging with Sy Johnson, and has also sat under bassist Rufus Reid, pianist Harold Mabern, and other masters. He is a founding member both of the NYC funk/soul group Sole Pocket and a progressive jazz ensemble, the Rochat-Felix Quintet. He currently resides in Manhattan, and is experiencing astounding success in his continuing mission to make the trombone a spaceworthy instrument. You may be sure that none of this is in the least bit exaggerated since he has written this little biography himself, and his devotion to absolute truth in music and life is well-known and unsurpassed.
