Global illage was nominated by City Paper for Best Jazz Performer 2001…fingers crossed!

The City Paper music awards ceremony will be held in April 2002 at the Trocadero in Philadelphia. Last year, 1k’s Jazzheads won for best jazz performer of 2000.

CIUT-fm in Toronto added Global illage - Sushilove Sessions to their Top 30, as well as WRTI-fm in Philadelphia.

Poet Ursula Rucker, just recently back from performing in Switzerland at the 35th Montreux Jazz Festival, along with guitarist Tim Motzer, and percussionist Jim Hamilton (Global illage) are getting ready to tour supporting her highly anticipated album ‘Supa Sista’ (!k7) to be released September 1. Producer Phillip Charles will round out the band on fretless bass. In Montreux they shared a night with K7 artists Herbert, DJ Stefan Stuerver, and Kruder and Dorfmeister. A concert replay and photographs are available at Montreux Jazz. Click on the July 15th performances to find Ursula Rucker’s performance. You can also access most of the concerts and workshops that happened during the festival including Herbert, Bobby McFerrin, John McLaughlin and Shakti, Herbie Hancock, and many others.

Global illage
Sushilove Sessions (equal area)

The improvisational quartet of Global illage and their resonant world vision is unleashed from members and collaborators of Les Nubians, Jazzheads, Elwood, Sylk130, Spoken Hand, Zakir Husain, and BoyzIImen…
    Chris Cuzme -
soprano + tenor sax, didgeridoo, exotic flutes, tibetan bowl

    Dan Sears -
trumpet, fluegelhorn, flutes, chordal pipes, and tibetan bowl

    Tim Motzer -
    guitars, synth guitar, bass, guitarloops

    Jim Hamilton -
    percussion batterie
The first sessions were largely group improvisations yielding two wildly divergent albums. The lush ambience of "chill side" is a kind of "Peter Gabriels Passion meets ECM". On the other side of that is "ill side" dark and menacing...an ill-fated futureworld of ambient punk funk abstraktions.

Produced by Brian Boland, Jim Hamilton, and Tim Motzer

"Sushilove Sessions is a breathtaking potpourri of jazzy, electronic ambience." Philadelphia City paper

Available at all the fine Philadelphia record stores: AKA, Spaceboy, Repo, Cue, 611,Tower Avenue of the Arts, Spaceboy and others…You can also purchase the album through www.cdbaby.com as well as this website.

Ursula Rucker + Tim Motzer live at the Tower Theatre
Here's what a.d. Amorosi had to say about the show:
    scene and heard:

    Nina and Ursula

The Tower Theater was moist enough to grow mushrooms last Saturday night (June 10). The pressure cooker heat was perfect for Nina Simone. With a temperament to match her talent, Simone¹s voice held classical, gospel, jazz and funky hunky folk in its sway. Yes, she seemed frail, puffy, even a bit lost at times. But she still commanded attention in the way an old boxer would, tempting you to stare at the left fist while she punches you square in the face with the right. Simone and her band rolled through the anthemic "Young, Gifted and Black" and the rickety boogie of "Mississippi Goddamn" like a truck driver. All nuance came from Simone¹s broken voice and her lightning fast, creepily instinctive piano playing. Simone¹s set, though far from perfect, was lovely.

And for Ursula Rucker and Jazzhead guitarist Tim Motzer, opening for Simone seemed a genuine honor. Their set (faves and new stuff from Rucker¹s upcoming Super Sister) was like hearing the sermon on the mount before witnessing the crucifixion. While Motzer rolled his acoustic guitar, Rucker (this city¹s most forceful performance wordsmith) caressed femme-empowered phonetics and flava-filled stories of life in the hood with dangerous delicious skill.
