A spontaneous session of visceral cinematic improvisations and in the moment compositions from three prominent Philadelphia musicians. Base3 is an experimental trio featuring Doug Hirlinger on drums, mbira, percussion, flutes: Barry Meehan (Sister Gertrude Morgan) on bass: and Tim Motzer (Ursula Rucker, Burnt Friedman/Jaki Liebezeit of Can) on electric and baritone guitars, pedals, and loops—all international musicians active on the Philadelphia jazz + experimental scenes.
Dark Matter reveals an honest record exhibiting the musicians multi-faceted abilities and their pure expression. Among the albums four extended pieces is the haunting, Ninth Ward, a beautiful and dark eulogy for the people of New Orleans. Fans of guitar improvisers, like Marc Ribot, and Derek Bailey, will appreciate BASE3_DARKMATTER.
